Tenuta L'Essenziale was born from this philosophy — a refuge immersed in the countryside of Ostuni, where the timeless charm of an ancient trulli complex meets a contemporary vision of living.
Respect for the land
The entire project is guided by deep respect for the territory. A love for this land inspired every choice: the restoration of the existing architecture, the care of the thirteen ancient olive trees surrounding the property, the involvement of local craftsmen, and the will to preserve the place's authentic identity.
Tradition and contemporary design
Inspired by Bauhaus principles, the project interprets architecture as a synthesis of art, craft and innovation. Tradition and contemporary design meet in perfect balance, giving life to spaces that are essential, luminous, and in constant dialogue with the landscape.
The restoration of the original buildings was paired with an extension designed with extreme sensitivity, capable of doubling the living space without altering the harmony of the complex. The new living area, entirely transparent, appears as a light, almost immaterial volume: a contemporary gesture that converses with the trulli without ever overpowering them, respecting the delicate balance between solid and void, matter and air.
Light as the protagonist
Here, natural light becomes the true protagonist. The large glass surfaces erase the boundary between inside and outside, letting nature into the house and letting the house merge with the landscape. At the centre of the living space, a magnificent centuries-old olive tree stands as the symbolic heart of the estate, a reminder that everything begins with the land that surrounds it.
Outside, the trulli retain their original character intact, while the spaces devoted to gathering settle naturally into the landscape. The stone barbecue and oven, carved by hand according to local craft tradition, celebrate the culture of outdoor living and sharing.
Interiors and the pool
Inside, stone tells the story of the building, in dialogue with clean-lined contemporary surfaces that amplify the light and create refined, essential, timeless spaces. The furniture follows the same philosophy, favouring handcrafted pieces and one-of-a-kind objects that speak of the territory through authenticity, simplicity and elegance.
The pool settles discreetly among the olive trees and the Mediterranean landscape, becoming part of the surrounding nature, while the bedrooms and bathrooms carved into the trulli hold an intimate, authentic atmosphere where time seems to slow down.
